Computer Repair Service Question?

I am currently 19 years old, and I will be doing online courses for PC Repair training from a very good institute, I was wondering though, is it possible to do an off-site only/remote assistance PC Repair business? The reason I’m asking is because about 2 or 3 years ago me and my mother decided it was not safe enough for me to get my drivers license (I had Amblyopia from being born prematurely at 25 weeks, which was corrected, but I still have a loss of vision in my right eye) So therefore I have no peripheral vision. So I was just wondering if it seemed like a good idea, I was even considering just running out of my apartment to people within a 20 mile radius.

NO. It’s barely possible to run such a business when you are going on site. You can pay hundreds for a yellow page ad, get a bunch of people to call you, and talk to them all day …. but good luck getting any of them to pay a red cent for it.

I think you are talking about “Boston Acoustic” speakers. Which is a manufacturer. If you got the kind of speakers that just have bare wires sticking out the back, then you need an amp or stereo unit to connect them to. If you have that, you can get a converter to from radioshack to connect your computers standard headphone jack to your stereos (more than likely) AVI right/left auxiliary connection.

If you got he amp or stereo console for the speakers, then just look what kind of “in” plugs it has and then go to radioshack, bestbuy, wallmart, target, etc and find the appropriate connection. It should be pretty cheap and you shouldnt have to spend more than $30 for a high quality converter and cord, but you can just get the cheapest you can.

Power supply problems on a HP?

I recently upgraded a family members HP media center, with more memory, small graphics card and windows 7, with no problem, and everything within the 300 watt power Supplies capability. The computer ran great.
She normally has her computer on 24/7 but went away on holiday for a week, and turned the computer off using the normal shut down procedure. She did not unplug it.
She returned, turned on the computer, and nothing. I checked the switch and the action seems fine. I checked the leads, all plugged in, no problems there. Only thing I did notice, is the green led on the power supply seemed dimmed. So I am assuming the problem is with the power supply.
Is there anything else I should be checking?

One thing to try… unplug the A.C. cord from the PSU. Let it sit for awhile… something may have occurred while it was shutdown that caused the PSU to crowbar.

If it still will not power up, then replace the PSU.

My standard recommendation is to replace the stock PSU with one 150watts higher than the factory PSU.

The factory unit is typically rated to run the computer as is, and not 24/7. The 300watt supply gives it a little overhead where it is not running at 100% all the time.

By installing a PSU rated at 450-500watts allows the PSU to operate at a 60-70% power level and not stressing the electronics in the PSU.

Especially if the computer is on 24/7.

Good to keep in mind that typically a motherboard is going to be around 100-130watts, added GPU anywhere from 50watts to 500watts depending on the card, fans 15-30watts, disk drive (?), CD (?).

They add up and vary from system to system but most stock power supplies are spec’d out close to the running limits of the system.
