What does a ps2 controller to usb adapter for pc actually do?

Will I be able to play let’s say splinter cell double agent on my pc but play like it is a ps2 because of the adapter? or do I have to do configurations first in order to play with a ps2 controller because I don’t want to buy a ps3 but I have a good that can play games like SCDA

Its only a controller that lets your PC games be played via the PS2 Gamepad. Ps2 are cheap thesedays, just go and buy one or an xbox360. There is no ps2 emulator or gear that can simulate the PS2 game exactly as it is on the PC hardware.
