The laptop itself is nice.
The processor is pretty good. 1GB of RAM is a little bit on the small side for Vista Home Premium. I’d up it to 2GB.
The screen is good…the hard drive is on the small side. If you’re a picture fiend, have a small video collection, or have a decent size (10GB+) library in iTunes, I’d upgrade to at least 120GB.
Home Premium is a good edition of Vista, the webcam is good…
MS Works isn’t that good, you may want to checkout www.academicsuperstore.com for Office Student & Teacher Edition. You’ll need to provide some form of photo ID (student ID, drivers license, passport) and some form of verification that you’re in school (report card or schedule from this year, letter from the school on school letterhead). Once you do that, though, you get Office at a significant discount.
Consider upgrading the warranty to 2 or 3 years and adding CompleteCare! (Accidental Damage protection)
